The deck is complete. |

The old deck was looking bad, |
so we turned it into a scrap pile. |
The railings went first, |
then the decking. |

When the joists were gone, water damage to the side of the house was revealed. |
The siding and some joists spacers were rotted. |
New supports had to be put in place. |
Then the header joist for the new deck |
was bolted into place. |
Two concrete foundations were poured. This one was placed under an existing slab. |

The support columns are 6 by 6, supporting a beam of two 2 by 10s. |

2 by 8 joists are spaced about 15 inches apart. |
We're almost ready for the 1 by 6 decking. |
We painted the bottoms of the deck boards |
and screwed them in place. |

Eight smaller footings were poured to support the two stairway landings. |
The landings stand on 4 by 4 columns. |

With the landings finished, |
it's time to make stairway runners. |

Six runners were cut from 2 by 12 stock. Three runners for each stair run. |

When the last stair was screwed down, |
we built railings. |
Everything is treated with wood stain. |
Only the top rails are left to install. |
Most of the construction debris is gone |
and we've started to landscape. |
